Giving to Support the Ministry

In the Church of Scotland, money given to a church is spent in a variety of different ways, for example:

  • paying the minister
  • meeting the church’s running costs
  • supporting other parishes
  • the church’s wider mission
  • social work and helping others in need.

Giving to the church is not simply about “keep things running” but a way in which we can respond to God in thanks for all He has done for us in sending Jesus. The money enables the church to do its job of reaching out to others.

If you simply wish to make a one-off donation at this point in time, a good way of doing that is to visit our Give.net page.

Giving regularly is the best way for church members to support the church since it allows the church to see the income it is likely to receive over the year and work out how that should be spent and what is possible. We can help you to give regularly in the following ways:

If you wish to give monthly… you can download a bank standing order form here and send it to our treasurer, in order that the bank can transfer your money for you. This has the advantage that you don’t have to remember to bring money each week to church.

If you wish to give weekly… please ask for a supply of weekly offering envelopes which you can put in the offering plate when you come to church.

It is of great help to us if you Gift Aid your contribution. If you do so, the church is able to claim back from the government 25p for every £1 that you give to the church, thereby increasing the value of your gift by a quarter. In order to gift aid your donation you must be a UK taxpayer (income tax or capital gains tax) and have filled in a gift aid declaration and returned it to our treasurer. Download a gift aid declaration here.
